Annual Scholarships

New and returning full and part-time students are encouraged to apply for Black Hawk College Foundation Scholarships. Scholarships are based on some or all of the following criteria: academic performance, financial need and/or area of study.

Listed below are the Black Hawk College Foundation scholarships currently available for students attending the Quad-Cities Campus.

Vickie L. Anderson Scholarship

Created for female nursing students with financial need.

Kylie Blickem Scholarship

For students enrolled in the ADN program. Preference is given to those students who are not receiving additional funding outside of tuition, fees, books, and HURST review. Student must show financial need..

Marilyn Casey Scholarship

Awarded to students pursuing a degree in a health-related field. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and show financial need.

P.J. and Molly Foley Rock Island Scholarship

Awarded to full-time students with a minimum 2.5 GPA who demonstrate financial need. Must be a resident of Rock Island. Preference given to Alleman High School graduates, with secondary preference to Rock Island High School graduates.

Sandie Cockerill Honorary Scholarship

Student must demonstrate financial need and plan to attend Black Hawk College for two full years.

Barbara D. Greim Ph.D Scholarship

For students majoring in Foreign Language Studies with a minimum 3.0 GPA and enrolled full-time. Preference given to those students with financial need if candidates are equally qualified.

Henry County Independent Insurance Agents Association Scholarship

Awarded to students in good academic standing. Must demonstrate financial need.

Illinois Health Improvement Association Scholarship

Awarded to students pursuing a degree in a heath-related field. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and show financial need.

International Student Association Scholarship

Given to our international students involved in the ISA program. Recipients selected by the department.

John Kidwell IMPACT Scholarship

Created by the IMPACT organization in honor of former college employee John Kidwell. Scholarship is for students in the Sustainable Energy/Engineering program.

Kings Daughters Nursing Scholarship

Given in support of nursing students. Must demonstrate financial need and academic performance.

Kings Daughters Textbook Scholarship

To purchase student textbooks. Must demonstrate financial need and academic performance.

Karla Miley Scholarship

For students pursuing a degree in social work with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to those students with a B average or above, who have demonstrated academic success at Black Hawk College. Preference is also given for students demonstrating financial need.

Dr. Miller Honorary Scholarship

Created by the IMPACT organization in honor of former Black Hawk College President Dr. Keith Miller.

State Representative Rich and Betsey Morthland Scholarship

Created for students majoring in Health Science (with preference to CNA students), Communications or Political Science (with preference to Model Illinois Government students). Must be a full-time student.

National Student Nurse’s Association Scholarship

Students must be Level 2 or 3 in the Black Hawk College ADN program and a member of the National Student Nurse’s Association. Applicants must attach a two-page typed essay with references addressing a topic to be determined each year. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Bradley D. Padakis Memorial Scholarship

Established by the Padakis family and Moline firefighters Local #581. Created in memory of Brad Padakis, a Black Hawk College graduate and a Moline firefighter Paramedic. Preference given to those enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certificate or associate degree program with interest in becoming a career firefighter and 30 years old or younger.

Robert J. Perkins Memorial Scholarship

Created in memory of Robert J. Perkins and awarded to students with a 2.5 GPA or higher for tuition, fees, books, and other educational expenses. Preference given to African American students.

Physical Therapist Assistant Scholarship

Created for students enrolled in the Physical Therapy Assistant program. Must be a part-time student with financial need. A written essay is required.

Plumbers & Pipefitters Scholarship

To support Black Hawk College students who are also in the P&P apprenticeship program.

Douglas and Alexandra Reiling Scholarship

Scholarship is awarded to a full-time, traditional student with a 3.5 minimum GPA. Financial need is not required, but will be considered only if candidates are equally qualified. Must be resident of Quad-Cities area. May be applied toward tuition, fees and books.

Sheet Metal Workers Scholarship

Established by Sheet Metal Workers Local 91. Full or part-time students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. First preference given to members of Local 91, and spouse, or their children.

Ruth & Albert Van Tieghem, Sr., Foundation Scholarship

Created for second semester freshmen or sophomore students with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference given to students in the Accounting Specialist program and to displaced workers. Students must demonstrate financial need.

Bettie and Joe Truitt Scholarship

Created in memory of John DeGryse and Joe Truitt. Awarded to students with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with preference given to those of Belgian heritage.

Verhille Family Scholarship

Established by Donald and Stephen Verhille. For full-time students with a Computer Science major. Must have 3.0 GPA and show financial need. Award to be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Georgia L. Youngs Family Scholarship

Established in honor of Georgia L. Youngs. Must be an Education major with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
